A native Wisconsinite, Matt DeVos grew up in Baldwin, Wisconsin , a small town in the northwestern part of the state. Mr. DeVos did his undergraduate work at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota and obtained his B.A. in Political Science. While in college, Mr. DeVos wrote for the Hamline Historical Society Newsletter and also received the Sieben, Gross & Von Holtom Legal Writing Award in 1996. Also active in the St. Paul community while in college, Mr. DeVos volunteered his time working with underprivileged children at a St. Paul Homeless Shelter.
After college, Mr. DeVos attended law school at the University of Wisconsin in Madison . While in law school, Mr. DeVos was a judicial clerk working for the Hon. William D. Dyke in Iowa County . This allowed him to gain specific insight and experience on the judicial process, and how judges make decisions. Mr. DeVos also clerked for a law firm in downtown Madison whose primary practice included representing insurance companies who were being sued in personal injury actions.
Since law school, the majority of Mr. DeVos' practice involves handling personal injury cases of many types such as automobile accidents, slip and falls, work injuries, medical malpractice and defective products. In injury cases, Mr. DeVos is dedicated to helping injured persons and families who have been the victim of serious injuries through no fault of their own. He will only represent the plaintiff in injury cases. In addition, Mr. DeVos does criminal defense work and is dedicated to upholding our Constitutional principle innocent until proven guilty.
Mr. DeVos has argued on behalf of clients in courts throughout southern Wisconsin , and has also argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit. He has also volunteered time by coaching high school students for mock trial competitions.
He is admitted to practice in all state courts in Wisconsin as well as the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin and the United States Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit.
Mr. DeVos is a member of a number of professional organizations such as the State Bar of Wisconsin, Dane County Bar, American Bar Association, Association of Trial Lawyers of America and Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers.
Mr. DeVos resides in Madison with his wife Liz. An avid fisherman, Mr. DeVos is a member of the Madison Chapter of Muskies, Inc.
